Long before OA, most arthritis starts as defects in the condyles, or meniscus tears. It’s that crackle pop you feel as your knee flexes back and forth, and the knee joint moves over the uneven surface of the medial and lateral meniscus. These nicks in the cartilage are caused by abnormal knee motion like twisting, back and forth motion, impact to the knee, and sometimes just stepping the wrong way. A simple hinged brace can help stabilize the knee, stop that abnormal motion, and allow the swelling to subside and the inflammation and pain to recede. These braces are easy to apply, either pull on or wrap, and are economical and effective.
